A Bicycle Ride at Cliff Cave Park

Last Thursday, our assignment was "Photojournalism". To illustrate the lesson, Tony took us to the library on a mock assignment to photograph a subject visiting the library. He stressed the importance of using different focal lengths and concentrating on detail for interest. Of course, we were expected to use the previous lessons on White Balance and ISO.

For this assignment, I decided to use a bicycle ride to Cliff Cave Park, as Tim and I try to ride every Sunday morning. We like the location, next to the river, and the fact that the trail does not cross any roadway. There are sections that are completely wooded, so it feels like being out in the country. We also like to look for wildlife and we usually see deer, and different wading birds in the wetlands. I have panniers (saddlebags) for my bike so it was easy to take my camera. The light was great when we got to the park, still low in the east, but it felt so good to ride, I had to remind myself to focus on looking for ideas for images instead of just riding.

Tim was very good by cooperating with my requests. What usually is a 90-minute ride turned into a two and a half hour trip. But we had fun with it.
